Sarah Elliott has come a long way since making her VicSpirit debut more than a decade ago.
The then inexperienced batsman struggled to make an impact, and was subsequently dropped for a lack of runs. However, a dominant season, in which she outscored her previous four years, saw her transform into the batting superstar we have come to know. Elliott made her ODI debut in 2005, scoring 45* in her first innings. A lean trot followed, and it wasn’t until 2008 that she passed 20. That knock – 96 against India – turned out to be her highest ODI score.
Elliott has since added a further three half-centuries to her tally, including 59 and 56* in her most recent outings. Her ODI average of 32 trumps her T20 record, with Elliott adding just 62 runs from 14 appearances. However, she has chipped in with six wickets – more than her ODI and Test tallies combined. Sarah Elliott must wish Test match cricket was played every week. In her two appearances, the top-order star has dominated with the bat, making 82 in 2011 and a sublime 104 earlier this year in England.
Her maiden ton came on the back of having to miss the best part of a year to look after her new-born son. Elliott returned to the Victorian line-up after her enforced hiatus in style, making 67 against Queensland in the WNCL. The Victorian batting all-rounder has enjoyed several seasons of over 250 runs for the VicSpirit, while she has also taken nearly 50 wickets throughout her career.
