Kookaburra, the world's leading manufacturer of cricket balls, has taken another bold step in its continuing goal to bring innovation to the game of cricket with the development of a highly visible pink cricket ball.

Since the company's development of the professional-standard white cricket ball, currently used throughout the world in all One Day International and First Class Cricket, Kookaburra has sought to improve the visibility of the ball whilst also preserving the natural balance between bat and ball. Different ball colours offer benefits depending on the environment of the game. The dark tone of a red ball can have a negative impact on visibility in fading light while players experience difficulties when using lighter coloured balls such as white, orange, yellow or pink on a turf pitch.

It is essential that the ball naturally deteriorates throughout the course of the game, thus allowing all skills of the game to be brought into play. The lighter coloured balls have historically presented problems of colour retention during this period of deterioration.

The idea of the pink ball was born out of Kookaburra's desire to support a local charity highlighting Breast Cancer, and as a result the company has tested and manufactured a range of pink balls to assess their usability.

In partnership with the MCC, Kookaburra will continue to invest time and expert resources in developing cutting edge products to ensure the ongoing success of the game of cricket
