Phillip Hughes capped off his first season of Pura Cup cricket, scoring his maiden First Class Century with a second innings score of 116 in just his 7th First Class match. He is the first teenager to score a century in a Pura Cup Final and did so with his trusty Kahuna Vision. After breaking into the highly regarded New South Wales line up including a host of Test Stars, Hughes scored 559 runs for the season at an average of 62.11 and looks to be a player of the future. Another significant milestone in the final, New South Wales Captain Simon Katich overtook Michael Bevan’s previous record for the most runs in a Pura Cup season by amassing a season total of 1506 runs at a Bradmanesqe average of 94.12. Simon may well be looking for another couple of Kookaburra Beast bats after such a stellar season. Other Kookaburra Sponsored players playing in the final included from New South Wales - Phillip Hughes, Simon Katich, Brad Haddin, Beau Casson, Nathan Bracken, and from Victoria – Lloyd Mash, Brad Hodge, Adam Crosthwaite and Dirk Nannes. Together these players scored 694 of the 1430 runs scored for the game – an amazing effort. Kookaburra congratulates both sides on making the Final, but particularly the New South Wales Blues on winning the 2007/8 Pura Cup with an emphatic victory over the Victorian Bushrangers.
